How to Set Goals – And How to STICK to Them

Goals.

Intention.

What are goals anyway?!

To me, a goal is to have something to work towards. Something that realistically could happen with intention, which is different from a dream.

goals

With the end of the year approaching, a couple of family members and I began talking about goals, whether we set them or not, and how we keep them at a manageable level so that they do remain goals, rather than just dreams.

Personally, I’m a firm believer in setting goals and restarting, but not just at the end of every year, but throughout the year.

Though I do set new goals at the start of each year as well, because what better time than the new year, to reset and begin working towards new things?

So I began looking back on my year, all that I worked towards and my list of goals that I had made before 2018 began. I realized two things:

The first thing I realized is that I began my blogging journey one year ago. How crazy cool is that?!? It feels as though I’ve been blogging for years, and it’s definitely been a journey, but blogging was something that was a dream that turned into a goal, that turned into a reality.

And I’m so thankful for that.

The second thing I realized is I accomplished all of my goals I had made for this year, which two years ago I wouldn’t have been able to have said.

So here’s the secret to how I am able to checkmark every one of those goals off on my planner:

Stop trying to accomplish every one of your goals at once.

This was my biggest mistake before, and even to this day I struggle with wanting to accomplish every single thing at once and have it all done yesterday.

But that never works, it never has worked, and it never will work.

Because that’s just another form of multitasking, except multitasking with our lives, and the problem is that all that gets accomplished are several things that get started and never finished.

So make a list of your goals, and then prioritize them. Set goals FOR your goals on when you would like to accomplish each one by. And stick to it. Don’t jump ahead of yourself, don’t try many at once, because chances are nothing will stick in the long run.

I’m in an overwhelming season right now with a lot on my plate, and not enough time. So that is one HUGE goal I’m working towards in the new year. Time management.

Let’s all stay tuned to see how it works out.;)

Here’s to new goals, friends. Here’s to making slow changes that stick. And here’s to check marking each one off.
