That Time My Sister Was Right

It’s a known fact that I’m a workaholic (insert eye-roll emoji here).

That’s seriously so hard for me to admit.

My friends and family tell me this fact all the time though, so I figure I should probably start facing the truth one of these days, ya know??

It’s hard for me because I want to serve my clients constantly. Emailing back, messaging back, editing galleries, planning dates, all of this 24/7, that it is SO hard for me to actually take time off from my business. Even when I’m on trips and vacations, I ALWAYS bring my computer with me and work on the off hours in-between what I have planned for the trip.

So this past weekend I did something that was REALLY hard for me to do. And I mean really really REALLY hard.

I didn’t work.

Well, I spent thirty minutes per day (max) responding to messages that needed to be responded to, and sharing some of my work with you all via social media, but besides that I didn’t work.

silence

I attended a conference that is centered around growing our faith with Jesus, on this walk of life that we take each and every day. Living our lives to serve Him, our Creator.

I had never been to this conference before, but was so ecstatic to take time to focus on my faith – something I know I don’t take enough time for.

Last week I was talking to my sister about going to the conference and she said “Teresa, I have one question for you: you’re NOT taking your laptop with you, right??”

To which I responded: “oh, of course I am!”

And she may or may not have given me a gentle lecture about the importance of going without work for a short time, and focusing on just being present and in the moment. With Jesus, in silence, with no distractions.

And ya know what friends? She could not have been more right (crossing my fingers she’s not reading this.)

I realized how little time I take out of my daily life to just be. Be in the silence, be with Jesus, and pray. Speak to Him and listen to His calling. His calling and His plan that He has for my life.

We can’t hear Him if we’re constantly busy busy busy with distractions and notifications and people ALWAYS around with no time to just focus on His word and teaching.

So this weekend was just what I needed. It was everything that I needed, and I am so thankful that God sends people into our lives for reminders, such as my sister.

I recommend spending some time this week to just be. There is this peace that comes with that, that is so hard to describe, but something so fulfilling in all of the best ways possible.

And I can’t wait for you to experience it too.

xoxo
