Photographers Are Not A Garage Sale

Please stop cheapening our art.

I’m going to be very real and very blunt here, friends. It feels so disrespectful when individuals treat Photography as if it’s something that anyone can do.

Yes, most people have cell phones that take “good pictures,” yes, anyone can buy a DSLR camera. Yes, you can take those pictures yourself.

BUT.

Not everyone is a Photographer. Photography isn’t just about taking a picture. Photography isn’t about being ABLE to take a cute picture.

Photography is about telling a story through a lens. Photography is about capturing a memory in time. Photography is about the eye of the person taking the photograph, not the equipment they are using. Photography is a passion that lies deep within one’s very being.
A (good) Photographer takes time and preparation for the individual or subject they are photographing. A good photographer pours their heart and soul into what they are about to capture. A good photographer gets the best angles, focus, and settings to make their subject look the best that they can look. A good photographer spends time taking the photographs, rather than rushing through. A good photographer edits each individual photograph to get the lighting, the contrast, the shadows, the highlights, the saturation, the tones, and everything else perfected. A good photographer doesn’t just do photography as a business. Photography is our life. It’s our escape. It’s our therapy. It’s our happiness. It’s a part of our hearts.

Think about this please the next time you’re inquiring with a photographer. We put so much time, effort, money, time, passion, love, and did I say TIME into what we do. We have studied our art, and we are good at what we do. Trust that, and pay the price that we give you.

Photographers are not a garage sale. We’re not negotiable. When we’re willing to work with your budget, that’s because we care and we understand that no one just has money laying around. However, that doesn’t make it okay for you to bargain our pricing. We have bills to pay. We have expenses. We have new equipment to buy, domains to pay for, editing tools to pay for, liability insurance, and most of us pay our bills through our Photography income. Please don’t negotiate with us. We don’t make these prices up. Our pricing is carefully calculated for all the preparation, for our equipment, time to edit, time to photograph, gas money, second shooters, quality in the images, countless hours of post-production editing, plus so many other factors, for how we come up with our pricing.

Respect and treat us please, just as you would any other business.

Please, don’t cheapen our art.

xoxo
