Recently the song “The Wizard and I” from the musical, “Wicked” played on my Spotify. I’ve heard the song countless upon countless times, but for some reason that afternoon was the first time I actually, really listened to the lyrics.
And friends, they made me realize something!!
I’ve made references before to the way the story of “The Wizard of Oz” is similar to our lives here on earth.
But this song, is especially similar.
I take it this way: in the context of the song Elphaba is you (or me), and the Wizard is God.
Towards the beginning of the song, the following lyrics really spoke to me:
“And with all his Wizard wisdom
By my looks, he won’t be blinded
Do you think the Wizard is dumb?
Or, like Munchkins, so small-minded?
No!
He’ll say to me, “I see who you truly are –
A girl on whom I can rely!”
And that’s how we’ll begin

Later on in the song really stuck out to me too:
“Unlimited
My future is unlimited
And I’ve just had a vision
Almost like a prophecy, I know
It sounds truly crazy
And true, the vision’s hazy
But I swear, someday there’ll be
A celebration throughout Oz
That’s all to do with me!”
I learned two lessons from this song, friends.
The first has to do with the first lyric snippet I stated above: “…He’ll say to me, ‘I see who you truly are – a girl on whom I can rely…”‘
The second has to do with later on the lyrics that proclaim “…unlimited, my future is unlimited…”
These words.
God never discriminates against how we look. He never discriminates against what color we are, how much we weigh, how tall we are, what gender we are, what our hair color is, any of that.
“…He’ll say to me, “I see who you truly are –
A girl on whom I can rely!”
And that’s how we’ll begin…”
Friends, we are unlimited.
God sees who we truly are. He sees everything that we are and everything that we are capable of. And He relies on US to do great things.
He gifted us with this incredible, huge world.
So what’s holding us back from doing incredible, huge things?
We were made for so much.
Whatever it is or whoever it is that’s holding you back from being the amazing, you that you can be? Drop them. Drop that.
We are unlimited, friends!!!
We are made to do SO much! We are CAPABLE of so much.
“A celebration throughout Oz, that’s all to do with me.”
That “me” can be YOU, friend.
You were made in the palm of our Savior’s hand. He has big, no. He has HUGE plans for you.
And once we see that it’s just God and us (the Wizard and I) taking on the world, we will see there really, truly are no limitations.
Unlimited.
This world is unlimited. And so are YOU, my friend.
