Wedding Photography Pricing: What in The Heck to Charge

Are you cringing right now just reading the title? Because money makes you feel just so uneasy (insert uneasy emoji here)? 

Well, we’re about to change that, because pricing and money may feel taboo based on your experience with the workplace and what society has made it out to be, but it doesn’t need to be.

SO, your question is what do you even charge for your wedding photography services?

Because you’ve searched every other wedding photographer in the area and clicked their “Investment” page searching for answers on what they charge, right? You know you have hahaha don’t deny this 😉

WELL, I’m about to blow your mind. You ready for this?

You don’t need to charge what everyone else is charging.

Ahem, let me say this oneeee more time. YOU DON’T NEED TO CHARGE WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS CHARGING!

In fact, I advise you don’t.

So I want you to wipe away and erase every photographer’s price you memorized in your head, because we’re about to go back to the drawing board and start over. Fresh.

Okay so here’s what I want you to think about when considering what in the heck to charge for your services:

1. Do you have any other source of income?

2. What are your monthly bills?

3. Monthly expenses?

4. Monthly business expenses?

5. Living expenses?

6. How much money do you need to make from photography in order to meet what you need to earn, plus make profit?

Okay this will take some math and calculations, but I PROMISE you it is worth it! Calculate this and then look at numbers. Play with some different numbers and consider if you have multiple collections. Calculate how many weddings or sessions you need to photograph to meet that number.

Make sure it’s a realistic number to reach, and then charge your worth based on that alone.

If the number of weddings or sessions doesn’t feel realistic, consider raising your pricing or find other ways to bring in revenue to reach that number.

I could write a book about pricing, but this is a great place to start. A way to feel comfortable and confident in what you charge, and ready to tackle the industry like the leader you are.
