This one’s for when you looked in the mirror and in your head thought “ew”
This one’s for when you felt guilty eating something with sugar in it, for fear of weight gain.
This one’s for when you didn’t get the job you applied for and really wanted.
This one’s for when you got your heart broken.
This one’s for when you were stood up.
This one’s for when you were humiliated.
This one’s for when you were told you weren’t smart enough.
Pretty enough.
Talented enough.
Skinny enough.
Muscular enough.
Social enough.
Good enough.
Enough.
I find myself far too often measuring my own worth and wondering if I’m enough.
Wondering if I’m excelling enough at what I do. Wondering if I’m pleasing others enough. Wondering if I’m generous enough. Wondering if I’m skinny enough. Wondering if I’m talented enough. Wondering if I’m pretty enough. Wondering if I’m smart enough. Wondering if I’m just plain enough.
And how many of you have caught yourself doing the same thing?
The truth is friends, who and what are we measuring ourselves in comparison to?
Who are we trying to impress?
Who are we trying to please?
I think many of us strive to please people in our lives – our family, our friends, our spouses, etc.
Human beings.
But you know what?
We will never be “enough” in our own eyes. We will never be pleased enough with who we are.
The only “enough” we should be concerned about, is being enough for God.
For praying enough, speaking to Him enough, and reading His word enough.
Because in the end of time, we aren’t going to be asked if we were pretty enough, skinny enough, talented enough, or smart enough.
Those things, they matter so little.
How we live our lives on this earth, that’s the enough we should be concerned about. If we’re kind enough, caring enough, charitable enough, loving enough.
God’s not measuring you up to anyone else.
Because there’s only one YOU, friend.
One unique, beautiful, strong, brave, kind, and loved, YOU.
That’s all there is.
And you were created in His image.
God wasn’t comparing you up against anyone else. He wasn’t wondering if you were enough for someone else. And He isn’t concerned about your outward appearance or intellectuality.
He loves you for being YOU.
Life doesn’t have to be a comparison game, friends.
The sooner we can accept who we are as we are, the sooner we will see the true beauty in not only ourselves, but in others.
