I’ve been in the Wedding Photography industry for years. Everything is trial and error. You need to do what works best for you, and try just about everything to figure out what works great for you and what doesn’t.
What gets you hyped up before every wedding day? What gets your energy flowing?
Over time I’ve found the best thing that is the one thing I do regardless prior to every wedding day I photograph.
What’s that?
Exercise.
And I’m not even talking about needing to do a high intensity crazy workout or a run prior to every wedding day. I’m talking even going for a half hour brisk walk, yoga, pilates, a HIIT workout, or whatever you’re feeling that day.
I’ve done it both ways of not exercising before photographing a wedding and exercising before photographing a wedding, and I have found that my energy and my mood are 10x better every wedding that I exercise prior to attending.
Exercise releases endorphins. And endorphins fuel energy. So if you get those endorphins going, it’s literally better than any amount of caffeine that you can drink in the morning.
I notice that I don’t crash or get exhausted as easily when I exercise before every wedding.
And most of all? I feel 100% in control of the day when I wake up and first thing I do is exercise. When we feel in control, we WILL be in control. And that’s ultimately what we need to do as photographers: guide a wedding day and be there for our couples, to make sure everything goes smooth sailing and we’re there for them every step of the way.
So try exercising next time you photograph a wedding day. It’s the best way to get you going and get you pumped up 🙂
